If like me you enjoy the odd tipple over the festive period then I thought I’d get us all in the mood by sharing some of my favourite Balearic spirits to enjoy with friends, family and loved ones at this time of year. We are also particularly conscious of doing our best to support local businesses during what has been a difficult time for everyone and gifting an experience is a unique and special way to share the love.

Gin Palma Spiced from the Gin Smiths at Mallorca Distillery is a twist on their original recipe and is even more appropriate for this time of year! Once distilled, the gin is aged in Mallorcan oak barrels when vanilla, cinnamon and cloves are added in stages bringing a complex sweetness and spice to the gin.

With a G&T in hand, you’ll be taken through a brief history of gin and taught about the unique and special botanicals used and the process of distilling. You can even take it to the next level and create your very own unique gin to take home. They’ll keep a record of your recipe so additional bottles of your special gin can be sent to you at any time which would make a wonderful gift for Christmas.
Bodegas Suau is a family-run, artisan company with over 170 years of fascinating history and tradition, located in a listed building just 10 minutes drive from Palma.
We highly recommend their fabulous bodega tours where you learn about the history and production whilst sipping their premium 15, 25 and 50 year old brandies which are traditionally aged in the microclimate of their cavernous underground cellars.

The decidedly christmassy Suau Orange is a delicious combination of Suau 8 with macerated local oranges from Sóller. Ron Jungla is a Caribbean style rum which has been double-aged in American oak barrels that previously contained brandy, making it a very tough choice between rum or brandy butter for my Christmas pudding and mince pies!
For true connoisseurs why not join the elite Suau Club and buy your very own 32 litre barrel of aged brandy from which you can extract 8 bottles a year leaving the remainder to be topped up with Suau 15 and continue the ageing process – the gift that keeps on giving!
