On an early spring day, I found myself on a steep and winding track in the hills above Andratx, driving through pollen laden pine forests on a quest to bring you all things blissfully Balearic and hence to meet the source of everything olfactory, the wonderful Trudi Murray.

After a warm welcome and a very professional barista coffee, I was invited into the perfume scented workshop which looks part vintage apothecary and part wizarding potions class. This is the beating heart of Gaia where Trudi has been making her personalised range of natural products at her heavenly finca in the Tramuntana mountains for six years.

From humble beginnings, followed by a lot of hard work their range of products can now be found scenting some of Mallorca’s chicest retreats including private yachts, boutique hotels Can Cera and Can Alomar in Palma, Predi Son Jaumell in Capdepera, L’Avenida in Soller, the sublime Hotel Cap Rocat, Castell Son Claret, Pure Salt Port Adriano, The Pink Pepper Tree in Lloseta and Hotel Torralbenc in Menorca to name a few.

Products free from chemical compounds and made using nature’s raw materials are increasingly becoming the order of the day and Gaia has developed its own original recipes to create natural solutions for skincare. Using homegrown aloe vera gel, olive and sweet almond oils, herbs and flowers from their finca and flor de sal from the salt plains of Es Trenc they produce a range of handmade and exclusive toiletries evocative with the scents of the island.

 Product Range & Where to Buy

All Gaia’s natural products can be purchased from their on-line store and include artisan soaps scented with flowers and herbs evoking memories of blissful Mediterranean summers. The Baby Gaia range includes a Healing Skin Balm with gentle mandarin and chamomile aromatherapy oils to calm emotions and the healing powers of calendula and aloe vera to soothe delicate skin. The Mens Range includes shaving soaps, pre-shave oils and aftershave balms with cedarwood, frankincense, mint and pine. You can find your inner goddess with the Gaia Goddess Kit and the luxurious exfoliating Body Polishers with rich shea and cocoa butters that melt into the skin. With this in mind Trudi offers her expertise to help home and yacht owners design their very own personal range of luxury scents, toiletries and spa products.  The scents are unique to each client and personalised design, branding and packaging are all part of the service. As we all do our best to reduce plastic waste on our beautiful islands Trudi supplies clients with options of attractive 250 ml and 500 ml dispensers for their bathrooms and accompanying five litre canisters for refills, making this an environmentally friendly option for villas and  yachts, especially those with a high turnover of guests.

As all Gaia’s products are hand-made locally they can supply small amounts at very reasonable prices meaning that launching your own label is both realistic and affordable.

Perfume Workshop

What could be better than to enjoy an authentic Mallorcan experience at this dreamy finca whilst learning about the history and world of perfumery? Trudi will introduce you to the fundamentals of essential oil and flower water distillation. You’ll learn how to blend perfumes in the traditional way distinguishing between the top-heart and bottom notes and create your own unique Eau de Toilette and Eau de Parfum to take home.
