It’s a magical time of the year!
Spring is in the air and it’s a magical time of year in the Balearics when our islands burst into bloom with delicate white and pink almond blossoms which decorate the countryside turning it into a fairytale wonderland.
One of the best ways to ensure you experience this natural spectacle is to place yourself in the hands of a knowledgeable local guide who can take you hiking or cycling through some of the prettiest scenery there is while the almond trees are at their blissful best! Alternatively, for a gentle stroll that’s suitable for all the family, try the CR2 Peguera to Es Capdella trail which is a 5km paved path with stunning countryside views on all sides. From Es Capdella you can continue through the Galatzó estate which is situated in the foothills of the Tramuntana mountains. The density of almond trees creates a white and pink carpet which, combined with the view of Puig Galatzó, is quite literally breathtaking.
You’ll find almond trees scattered all over the interior of the island, so all you have to do is jump in the car and take a leisurely drive along quiet countryside roads to see what the locals call ‘Mallorcan snow’.
Some of the best routes to follow include the lesser roads around Bunyola towards Valldemossa and Soller, or inland via Santa Maria, Sencelles, Alaro, Inca, Selva, Moscari or Lloseta. If you’re in the southeast of the island then head to Manacor, Felanitx, Sant Llorenç and Son Servera where they hold a fabulous Almond Blossom Fair every February.
Another wonderful way to take in the sights is by the vintage Tren de Soller from Palma where you’ll pass through fields of almond, orange and lemon groves enroute.

We’re proud to share the fact that the Balearics produce some of the most highly prized almonds in the world! Not only are they highly nutricional due to their higher fat content but they also have a luscious sweet flavour, so not surprisingly they are the star ingredient in many of our favourite local products and recipes. Some of our ‘must try’ dishes include cold almond soup served in summer, for dessert ‘gató de almendra’ with lashings of almond ice cream and last but by no means least turrón at Christmas time!
